VILLAGE SUN** e-bike scoflaw cyclist given ticket**caused death
THE VILLAGE SUN continues its valuable reporting on the public safety crisis.
The family of retired school teacher Pricilla Loke has diligently pursued
bringing an element of justice to her wrongful death by e-bike. SUN reporting
kept the NYPD focussed on determining the guilt of the red light running
e-bikester who fatally struck the beloved teacher. Kudos to Lincoln Anderson
and the Loke family and their lawyer for advocating for Ms Loke and the public.

Teen boys fall or collide riding electric scooters
As electric scooters have become popular, they have also led to more injuries, according to research from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP.
From 2020 to 2021, researchers found, the number of children and teens injured on electric scooters rose 71% in the U.S. Emergency departments reported more than 13,500 such injuries over the two-year period, frequently among boys ages 16 to 18.
Head injuries like fractures were the most common type, the researchers found. Nearly 67% of children who sustained head injuries from electric scooters weren’t wearing helmets.
Some scooter injuries involved car accidents, while others came after riders hit potholes or uneven ground.
Over the summer, 16-year-old Anthony Greco hit a pothole in the road riding his electric scooter home from work.
"The scooter started to lose control, and I felt like I was going to fall off. I tried to hop off and save myself, and then I landed right on my ankle, and it just snapped," he said.
Anthony fractured his leg and sought care at CHOP. The wound was so severe and dirty that doctors considered amputation, but they were able to perform reconstructive surgery.
"His father is an above-the-knee amputee, so we already live that life. To have that for our son, too, that was a really scary thought," said his mother, Krystine Greco.
Dr. J. Todd Lawrence, the pediatric orthopedic surgeon who treated Anthony at CHOP and oversaw the research, said many kids visit the emergency room for similar circumstances. But the majority of electric scooter injuries are "little bumps and bruises, things that are fairly easily treated," he said.
To prevent injuries, the researchers suggested adding more bicycle and scooter lanes in suburban and urban areas, teaching kids safe riding practices and educating drivers about maintaining safe distances from scooters.
Lawrence said parents should also consider buying scooters with sizes and speeds that are appropriate for their teenagers.
"If you’re going to have your 15-year-old teenage boy riding it, they don’t need one that goes 55 miles per hour," he said.
According to the Greco family, however, kids shouldn't be riding electric scooters at all.
“If I see somebody on an electric scooter, I think to myself, ‘How can you even be doing that right now?'" Anthony said. "I see all of the casualties that can happen while they're on it."

NYDN**** NYC on track for 2nd deadliest year for cyclists since 1999.
To date there have been 26 cyclist fatalities in the city. 70% of
which have been e-bike riders. The bike advocates complain that
the "reqired" mileage of bike lanes have not been built out.
The mayor calls for "education".** The whole of Vision Zero has been
an exercise in zealotry. A fantastic fatal farce.** There was never
an independent environmental impact study conducted. A cooperative
effort to establish and maintain a responsible bike culture was
actively avoided. To this day Transportation Alternatives asserts
"Enforcement is not an option." As in other biked out urban areas
it is possible to change policy. Backtrack-undo-rethink.
Charles Komanoff is co-founder of Transportation Alternatives.
He was a vociferous critic of nuclear energy until 2022. Then he
did a 180 degree reversal recognizing the necessity to combat
global warming. Vision Zero is another of his "great man" schemes.
The proof is in the pudding. CHARLES KOMANOFF-WRONG on VISION ZERO.
WRONG on NUCLEAR ENERGY.

Downtown NYC-The Village Sun Rev. Bucey of Judson Mem Church e-bike victim
Lincoln Anderson of The Village Sun continues his excellent coverage of
the public safety crisis caused by the lack of a responsible bike culture
and in particular the death dealing and leg breaking assault by electric
vehicles. Along with the lithium battery fires. I have an extensive comment
on the piece about Rev. Bucey's vehicular assault. The causes and what
can be done in the aftermath.

CBS:Local News---Bike Rally
Brief account of the bike rally that took place. Again the lack of
a responsible bike culture since the Bloomberg administrations and
the "visionairies" lack of rationality with their insistence on a policy
of no enforcement makes this rally a pathetic exercise in zealotry.
European bike programs emphasize safe responsible bike riding. They
work assidulously to establsih and maintain them. The logistics of
street width and population density are also different. The 26 deaths
and all deaths and injuries and numberless close calls are directly
morally attributed to the policy and practice of non enforcement.
The visionairies are hoist on their on petard-and they have taken
the public along for the ride. The "delusionists" like Trump are not
limited to Congress.
EW YORK -- Dozens of cyclists took to the streets of Manhattan on Wednesday to demand Mayor Eric Adams take action to stop bike fatalities.
Twenty-six people have been killed while riding their bikes in New York City so far this year.
The cyclists gathered in Washington Square Park and held a vigil for the victims.
Organizers say the city is on track to have the second deadliest year for cyclists on record.

Bike Action by Transportation Alternatives** email
The visionaries without vision sponsor a bike action calling for
no cyclist deaths and safe streets. This is the height of hypocrisy.
Rivaling that of the "delusionist" Donald J. Trump. It is not rational
to call for or expect safe conditions when Transportation Alternatives
proclaims "enforcement is not an option." In what realm of existence
is safety possible without accountability? In what realm is it possible
without enforcement as the backbone of a responsible bike culture which
was zealously opposed by TA since the time of Mayor Michael R Bloomberg?

E Citibike -wrong way rider puts woman in coma-hit and run Village Sun
Lincoln Anderson publisher of the Village Sun writes an indepth account
of the hit and run accident on 38th St and 2nd Ave. This gives a
thorough rendering of the accident. The follow up. Clearly this irrational
Vision Zero has reached a tipping point. The public no longer tolerates
the daily mayhem that has ensued from the non enforcement policy that
has plagued the increasingly beset city for more than 20 years If this
makes you angry. If you are concerned. Support NYC-EVSA. and Pedestrians
4 Bike Safety. Make your concerns and right to a reasonable safe
environment known. Organize for public safety.
