Comment regarding the Village Sun piece-Mayor wants to regain control of streets-below

There was never an environmental impact study done — resulting in the worst congestion in the nation. There was no genuine, sustained, cooperative effort to establish a responsible cycling community. Result::: daily danger on the streets and sidewalks — only increasing with the onslaught of other modes of menace. Vision Zero is aptly named. By opposing enforcement from the time Trans Alt had the ear of Mayor Bloomberg, Charles Komanoff and Mark Gorton, the Sophist in Chief and the Hedge fund Advocate of unpopular positions, have trafficked in zealotry and hubris. Displaying a reckless disregard for public safety and wallowing in their own self-righteous drive to surpass Robert Moses in infamy and undermine the NYPD. How the city administrations have succumbed to this bludgeoning of the quality of life is a sad comment on the priorities and humanity of our Captains of Commerce. Vision Zero has been IRRATIONAL from the jump. Although bike programs in Europe have their issues, New York’s version with different logistics of population density and street width, complemented by the egregious lack of enforcement, has created a public safety crisis. **** Lying in the weeds is PlacemakingX, Fred Kent was its co-founder along with Komanoff of Trans Alt. His son Ethan now mans the helm. This is why TA has shifted its rallying cry from cycling being good for health and pollution to needing more public space. The privatization of public space. Said to be good for shopping and real estate.

The Village Sun**OP ED by Kathryn Freed vs. Congestion Pricing

Former City Councilmember and Judge Kathryn Freed makes a strong case against Congestion Pricing especially concerning the effects on the Lower East Side. NYC has the worst congestion in the nation. Blame for this clearly lies with the blind Vision Zero. No environmental impact study. Fueled by hubris and zealotry. Speciously based on health considerations that has given way to the private use of public space. Initially proposed by the sophist in Chief Charles Komanoff Vision Z imports cycling programs from Europe from cities with very different street widths and population densities. PLUS Transportation Alternatives is said to have prevailed on city adminsitrations to withhold enforcement by the NYPD. Enforcement being the backbone of accountability. Accountability being the essence of a law abiding responsible cycling culture. Screw public safety say the zealots. Screw quality of life. Irrational policy. Woeful neglect on the part of city administrators.*** https://thevillagesun.com/opinion-congestion-pricing-would-fuel-pollution-on-les

NYT-Rise in Car Crash Fatalities attributed to Smart Phones & USA Culture

Smart phones similarly contribute to the prevalence of the indifferent behavior of many cyclists. ESPECIALLY DELIVERY AGENTS!!! The consumers want their product handed to them and they want it FAST!! We the public pay for this narcissism by living in daily danger. Suck it up people-COOK! ********************THE SMARTPHONE*****NYT 12/11/23 Many of the potential explanations for the trend don’t seem to fit. Cars in this country are large, but they have become only slightly larger since the early 2000s. Drunken driving has not become more common, and roads have not become more dangerous. But there has been one major change in driver behavior: the use of smartphones. “Smartphones have become ubiquitous with remarkable speed, overlapping closely with the timeline of rising pedestrian deaths,” Emily, Ben and Josh write. “Apple’s iPhone was introduced in 2007. Within a few years, one-third of American adults said they owned a smartphone.” Smartphones have also become ubiquitous in other countries, of course. But American drivers seem to be addicted to their phones in ways that drivers elsewhere are not. Surveys suggest Americans spend more time on their phones while driving than people do in other countries. In part, this phenomenon may reflect this country’s culture, which emphasizes professional success and immediate gratification. It also partly reflects vehicle technology. Nearly all cars in the U.S. are automatic transmission, freeing drivers’ hands (or so they may think) to use phones. In Europe, almost 75 percent of cars still have gears that a driver must change manually. “The adoption of smartphones for the past 15 years — where we are today, being addicted on social media and other apps — absolutely contributes to the increase in fatalities on our roads,” Matt Fiorentino, a vice president at Cambridge Mobile Telematics, which tracks dangerous driving for carmakers, insurers and regulators, told Emily.

Soho Alliance alert to the City Hall rally e-bike regulation**Public safety

Sean Sweeney(SOHO ALLIANCE) invites all to support the 12/6/23 rally at City Hall "WE ARE THE MAJORITY" to support CM Holden's bill 0758/22 calling for the regulation of e-bikes.*** WHAT: Rally & Press Conference to Support Licensing of e-Bikes WHO: Victims of e-bike accidents, safety advocates, city council members and common citizens like ourselves WHEN: Wednesday, December 6 at noon (arrive by 11:45am) WHERE: City Hall, East Gate, Park Row, directly across from the Brooklyn Bridge The SoHo Alliance has been receiving calls to do something about the mushrooming growth of reckless e-bikers who flout the law, recklessly ride on bothx sidewalks and bike lanes, run red lights, and behave with general contempt for public safety. One reason for this behavior is their lack of accountability. It’s hard to ticket an offender if there is no way to identify the errant rider. Councilmember Robert Holden has introduced a bill before the City Council that would require the NYC Department of Transportation to register and issue license plates for e-vehicles. Of the 51 councilmembers, a majority, 32, have signed on. The bill would pass. However, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is not allowing it to come for a vote. To override that decision, a 2/3rd supermajority of the council, 34 members, is required to force a vote. Opponents of this sensible legislation include lobbyists for the delivery workers and Transportation Alternatives, which absurdly contends that licensing of e-bikes will eventually lead to licensing of pedal bicycles. Accountability Changes Behavior = Lives Saved & Fewer Injuries We are the majority. Please attend. PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS. Sincerely, Sean

WBGO NEWS** NYC Worst Congestion in Nation 12/5/23

Scott Pringle reported on WBGO that New York City-Newark has the worst congestion in the nation. The average commuter by vehicle spends 236 hours yearly languishing in traffic. #2 in the cost of gasoline. #8 in fatal crashes. New Jersey is suing to stop congestion pricing. Small business owners express concern that it will hinder business and increase delivey costs which they will have to pass on. Oh but the "visionaries" know best. Ignore environmental impact studies. Establishing responsible cycling culture is a mere nuisance readily dismissed. Fatal accidents-ah mere collateral damage in pursuit of "The Vision." Quality of life? Public safety? Mere inconvenience in pursuit of "The Vision." New York has been taken for a ride. If Transportation Alternatives' intention was to rival Power Broker Robert Moses for negative influence on the life and health of the city-they have done so. In that they have succeeded.

SOHO ALLIANCE E-Bike Menace Addressed (Sean Sweeney)

Excellent run down of the E-Bike menace.Bills to support.Adversaries of public safety cited****************** With the explosion of food delivery services, the SoHo Alliance has been fielding calls from residents upset with the dangerous proliferation of rogue electric bikes, mopeds and scooters careening on our streets, sidewalks and bike lanes. Not only do these daredevil e-bikers instill fear in pedestrians, they have injured countless individuals and even killed several people. Something has to be done to rein in these cowboys. Click here to read just a few news reports from thevillagesun.com of deaths and injuries reported locally. But this menace is a city-wide problem that needs a city-wide solution. Fortunately, a citywide organization, the NYC E-Vehicle Safety Alliance, EVSA, has formed to lobby to get these outlaw riders under control. EVSA demands stricter enforcement of existing traffic laws, something the Adams administration seems reluctant to do. if you want to do something about this problem, follow the organization on Twitter https://twitter.com/nyc_evsa or email EVSA at nyc-evsa@outlook.com to get involved. ************************************************************************************************************************ Legislatively, action is being taken on the state and city levels. State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Assemblymember Tony Simone have introduced three pieces of legislation in Albany to regulate e-bikes. Their first bill would require e-vehicles used by commercial delivery apps, like Grubhub, Uber Eats and DoorDash, to be licensed, making it much easier to identify lawless riders. One reason for the reckless behavior by the delivery workers is that they are under pressure from the companies to deliver the goods ASAP, safety notwithstanding. The second bill requires the companies to provide insurance for their delivery workers, so that the injured would have some recourse to compensation. Thirdly, if an e-bike is involved in a hit-and-run, the penalties should be the same as for automobile hit-and-runs. Currently, these penalties differ considerably and this bill would rectify that disparity. Let the senator know you support his legislation. Email his office at hoylman@nysenate.gov or send an official message to his website, here. Assemblymember Alex Bores and State Senator Liz Krueger have introduced legislation that would require any moped or motorcycle to be registered and have a license plate at the time of purchase. In the City Council, Queens Councilmember Robert Holden has introduced a similar bill, Intro. 0758-2022, to register and license e-bikes with the City Department of Transportation. Supporting this bill would seem like a no-brainer. However, a cohort of lobbyists that includes Transportation Alternatives, Los Deliveristas Unidos, the Street Vendors Project, and Open Plans (the group pushing the outdoor eating sheds as well as closing off streets in SoHo) oppose this sensible legislation since it interferes with their "vision" of New York, disregarding the safety of the public. To support the City Council legislation, email Councilmember Holden's office District30@council.nyc.gov and voice your support for his efforts to control these reckless riders and protect the rest of us. Saving people's lives and limbs is more important than having a pizza delivered in under fifteen minutes.

NBC.com** E scooters increasing danger for youth

SO MUCH FOR FREE WHEELING MICRO TRANSPORT Teen boys fall or collide riding electric scooters As electric scooters have become popular, they have also led to more injuries, according to research from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP. From 2020 to 2021, researchers found, the number of children and teens injured on electric scooters rose 71% in the U.S. Emergency departments reported more than 13,500 such injuries over the two-year period, frequently among boys ages 16 to 18. Head injuries like fractures were the most common type, the researchers found. Nearly 67% of children who sustained head injuries from electric scooters weren’t wearing helmets. Some scooter injuries involved car accidents, while others came after riders hit potholes or uneven ground. Over the summer, 16-year-old Anthony Greco hit a pothole in the road riding his electric scooter home from work. "The scooter started to lose control, and I felt like I was going to fall off. I tried to hop off and save myself, and then I landed right on my ankle, and it just snapped," he said. Anthony fractured his leg and sought care at CHOP. The wound was so severe and dirty that doctors considered amputation, but they were able to perform reconstructive surgery. "His father is an above-the-knee amputee, so we already live that life. To have that for our son, too, that was a really scary thought," said his mother, Krystine Greco. Dr. J. Todd Lawrence, the pediatric orthopedic surgeon who treated Anthony at CHOP and oversaw the research, said many kids visit the emergency room for similar circumstances. But the majority of electric scooter injuries are "little bumps and bruises, things that are fairly easily treated," he said. To prevent injuries, the researchers suggested adding more bicycle and scooter lanes in suburban and urban areas, teaching kids safe riding practices and educating drivers about maintaining safe distances from scooters. Lawrence said parents should also consider buying scooters with sizes and speeds that are appropriate for their teenagers. "If you’re going to have your 15-year-old teenage boy riding it, they don’t need one that goes 55 miles per hour," he said. According to the Greco family, however, kids shouldn't be riding electric scooters at all. “If I see somebody on an electric scooter, I think to myself, ‘How can you even be doing that right now?'" Anthony said. "I see all of the casualties that can happen while they're on it." This article was originally published on NBCNews.com

CBS:Local News---Bike Rally

Brief account of the bike rally that took place. Again the lack of a responsible bike culture since the Bloomberg administrations and the "visionairies" lack of rationality with their insistence on a policy of no enforcement makes this rally a pathetic exercise in zealotry. European bike programs emphasize safe responsible bike riding. They work assidulously to establsih and maintain them. The logistics of street width and population density are also different. The 26 deaths and all deaths and injuries and numberless close calls are directly morally attributed to the policy and practice of non enforcement. The visionairies are hoist on their on petard-and they have taken the public along for the ride. The "delusionists" like Trump are not limited to Congress. EW YORK -- Dozens of cyclists took to the streets of Manhattan on Wednesday to demand Mayor Eric Adams take action to stop bike fatalities. Twenty-six people have been killed while riding their bikes in New York City so far this year. The cyclists gathered in Washington Square Park and held a vigil for the victims. Organizers say the city is on track to have the second deadliest year for cyclists on record.

he Yahoo article cuts out the young man’s fervent support of bikes, and against cars. Perhaps it is that the Daily News altered the article to make it seem less that he was a bike zealot, or perhaps Yahoo did that. But I’ve attached the paywall removed article from the NYDaily News which say this part which was left out of the article below. "Before the crash, Priley often spoke of the city’s bike infrastructure and “expressed frustration with the mayor’s office,” according to Horne. “We have a transportation system bent towards cars,” he said. “I’ve had countless of my own close calls when biking. It cuts different when it’s someone close to you.” Horne, who works in urban planning, said Priley does not have intentions of running for office and prefers to work behind the scenes." https://enewspaper.nydailynews.com/infinity/article_share.aspx?guid=e3af608b-37d9-486a-b5ea-089f954de00d There might be other edits but this is the important stuff that was left out from the Yahoo article taken from the NYDaily News. ******This demonstrated that Priley was not paying attention to his own experience. Boston Globe: Building Bike Lanes isn't Enough

This piece cites the indication that bike ridership is NOT growing as fast as the bike build out anticipated. It cites the old arguement about being environmentally beneficial and human health friendly. However in addition to the opposition by various groups this piece neglects to state that the European cities ie Amsterdam that now has a robust cycling polpulation worked diligently to establish a responsible biking culture. enforcement being the backbone of same. Cyclists appreciate the privilege of cycling to work and for pleasure. They discipline one another and motorists. Further in cities like New York the logisitics of population density and street width are very different. From minute 18-27 Janet Schroder makes important points on behalf of NYC-EVSA (electric vehicle safety alliance). A neat double. Undermine the NYPD and allow the riders to go rogue without accountability. Rational? I think not. Then there was no effort to establish a responsible bike culture. Traffic Fatalities*112* Cylist Deaths *18* First half 2023--Patch

Patch seems to be a TA publication. These are indeed troubling statistics. However consider that Transportation Alternatives was so zealous to put spokes on the street and apparently sidewalks that it actively opposed a responsible bike culture. With a rogue culture it astronomically increases the probability of accidents. Increases the level of stress and aggravation for all.Pedestrian, Cyclist and motorist alike. The reckless disregard for public safety makes Transportation Alternative morally liable for a massive percentage of the deaths and accidents and numberless near accidents experienced by the public since the first Bloomberg administration. And the elected public officials who truckled and faciltated the sophistry are like MAGA hat wearing "Progressives." E-bike bills require licensing and make ECorps responsible Village Sun July 21,2023

https://thevillagesun.com/e-bike-delivery-persons-would-need-license-plates-under-new-bill-apps-would-be-fined-if-riders-go-on-sidewalk

Response to Village Sun Editorial by Steve DiLauro by Jack Brown June 2, 2022

Brown gives an account of how the reckless disregard for public safety was promoted by the irrational zealotry of Transportation Alternatives. I have written in the Sun previously. The social contract was broken when Michael Bloomberg was Mayor. I was told by then-Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh in 2010, “THE REASON THERE IS NO ENFORCEMENT IS BECAUSE TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES DOESN’T WANT IT.” TA based their zealotry on — I was told — some apocryphal study done in the outback of Australia — “THE MORE BIKES ON THE STREETS, THE SAFER THE STREETS FOR BIKES.” Well not only — if true — was there no correlation between rural Australia and the Big Apple, but that fancy has proven to be deadly wrong. Bloomberg didn’t need the campaign contributions but he did want to attract the Tech (FANG) industry — and not incidentally give the real estate values a boost. Techies like to ride bikes. Requiring helmets or having the law enforced would dampen enthusiasm, ipso facto NO ENFORCEMENT FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. For cyclists it’s all the rights of the road and none of the responsibilities. Hence bike bedlam. Charles Komanoff, a self-described visionary, is the sophist in chief of TA. I spoke to Prof. John Pucher, an internationally recognized transportation expert and biking advocate. When I told him about TA arm-twisting about law enforcement, he said emphatically, “I TOLD THEM NOT TO DO THAT.” Bloomberg told DOT Commish Sadik-Khan, “Do whatever you want. Just don’t screw up.” Well, hubris given license knows no bounds. Anarchy prevails. In my view, as a veteran of the bike industry and spokesman for Coalition Against Rogue Riding, this demonstrated a reckless indifference for public safety and human life. The grandiosity of Charles Komanoff is akin to that of Donald Trump. Only Komanoff couches it in statistics and intellectual pretension. If anyone has any doubt that NYC and other areas have been affected by Komanoff’s meglomania, see a recent article in the Washington Post. It leads with reference to Komanoff’s 180-degree reversal on the value of nuclear energy. At one point he was perhaps the leading detractor on the value of nuclear energy, he has now seen the light. Realizes that climate change needs the more efficient energy nuclear provides. At the same time he was cooking up his animosity to nuclear energy, he was dreaming of an Big Apple without motor vehicles — where the NYPD only enforced the law against the evil motor vehicle and let two-wheeled rogues run wild on the streets and sidewalks. So now the NYPD has been undermined. Lawless two-wheeled culture has expanded and jeopardizes every step we take. The parks are not safe. With the dining shacks, the sidewalks are even less safe than prior to the pandemic. Let us all recognize Charles Komanoff for the Donald Trump-like snake oil salesman he truly is. Dollar Bill De Blasio went along with TA for the votes and campaign contributions. He too kept the NYPD on a short leash. This is the underbelly of one of the signal boils in the Big Apple’s Progressive Paradise. Let us all recognize the inept arrogance of one of Harvard’s ignominious alums, Tribecca’s Charles Komanoff.

Mayor Bloomberg admits Bike Lanes diminish his popularity **Bloomberg's legacy NYT 2012

https://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/23/nyregion/a-spring-rite-for-bloombergs-top-officials-food-drink-and-rivalry.html 2012 then Mayor Mike Bloomberg amidst the revelry of a big splash dinner party admits that bike lanes diminish his popularity. This was 2012. It's a good thing he's not checking his popularity for allowing the visionaries to pursue their zealotry. Lithium battery death and destruction.Worst congestion in the nation.Having prevented the NYPD from enforcing the law a dangerous culture on the streets and sidewalks creates constant jeopardy. Emergency response times are extended. Parking is a nightmare for people who use vehicles as part of their job. And now the great solution of congestion pricing. All this for what was touted as going green. Perhaps Mr. B can put a bug in the overmatched ear of current Mayor Adams to do right what he did wrong and direct the NYPD to enforce the law.

Therefore a van is a prime target.***Parking has been reduced due to the bike racks and the dining shanties.During pandemic the sheds were needed to prop up the restaurants. Now "The sheds gotta go". Bike parking could be on the sidewalk more frequently. ***Everyone is entitled to safety. The bikes and e-bikes and microtransport go every which way. No enforcement. No accountability. This endangers everyone. And motor vehicles are liable.***The city can require the micro transport to be registered and licensed. Intermin NYPD Commissioner Caban astutely pointed out that the scoot & scooter in question was unlicensed and without plate. Is this karaoke of violence a result of the lack of a responsible culture from the inception of the "visionarie's" putsch? Or another example of a "mentally unstable" with a gun? It's fair to observe that guns need emphatic regulation and so do bikes and micro transport. The combination lethal. https://heavy.com/news/thomas-abreu/

Regional News****The Congestion Tax battle between N.J. & NYC Yahoo News

https://news.yahoo.com/inside-furious-debate-over-york-103000978.html Congestion tax is a fabrication of Transportation Alternatives ie "visionairies" putsch to drive the motor vehicle from the island. The bike lanes. Quieting zones. Bike racks & yes the pandemicly opportunistic grub shacks all reduce parking. Also fewer lanes for motor vehicles in the streets. Hence the worst congestion in the nation. Newark to New York City is the worst regional congestion. Transportation Alternatives blared that cycling was the be all and end all for going green. The acute congestion is the result. How's that for going green. Now the visionairies want to impose a congestion tax. Much to debate. But one thing is clear-they have created the problem they want to heroically solve. How's that for irrational hubris? The daily danger on the streets and sidewalks and the unregulated deliveristas with the lithium battery explosions and resulting death and destruction also fall out of the irrational push. There was never an environmental impact study done. There was never an effort to establish a responsible bike culture. Thus is the resulting needless death, danger and destruction gifted to the public in an ongoing exercise in hubris and zealotry.

Deliveristas Band Together to Recover Stolen Bikes AMNY

Delivery Agents band together to enforce the law that they so regularly break against the law breaking thieves who steal thier bikes. The Appsters are primarily responsible for driving the lawless bike riding by imposing hair raising delivery times on the agents. Councilman Christopher Marte D-1 proposes that the deep pocketed Appsters be responsible for providing bikes with safe batteries. This would reduce the prevalence of lithium ion battery fires and the death and destruction that ensues. Cut the head of the snake. Also the public might consider getting up from their computer screens and walking to the restaurant or store for their items. Thus supporting local business by keeping the profit in their cash registers. Also reducing the size of the consumer's derriere. Perhaps they won't need to spend as much on cosmetic surgery and make up. E-Bike Battery Fire Chinatown June 20,23 The Village Sun

This Village Sun piece is a second coverage of the Lithium Battery fire that caused 4 deaths and 2 injuries in Chinatown. Included because of the excellence of the information. In depth and insightful. Demonstrates the value of community reporting. In particular Councilman Christopher Marte has a plan to make the app companies responsible for providing their delivery agents with the government approved batteries that are likely to avoid combustion. Those appsters mandate hair raising delivery times. Causing the agents to break the law, cause dangerous conditions, in order to comply. The blame lies with the appsters. Secondarily the tip hungry law breaking deliveristas. The convenience loving public pays the price. Another recent story described how deliveristas so comfortable breaking the law and casuing dangerous conditions on the streets and sidewalks are now forming posses to try to recapture delivery bikes that are stolen while they make deliveries. The law breakers are now taking the law into their own hands to enforce the law which has not been enforced against them. Ah such is another day in paradise. The zealots behind Vision Zero sedulously prevented the city from enforcing traffic laws against rogue cyclists. Thus undermining the NYPD and allowing daily danger to thrive on the streets and sidewalks. It is said that then Mayhor Bloomberg was complicit in withholiding enforcement because he wanted to attract the Tech Industry. And incidentally inflate real estate prices. Allow techies to ride without repercussion for law breaking and reap the reward of the ripple effects-for decades. Lithium Battery Fire Kills 4-Downtown NYC

Another day another lithium ion E Bike battery fire and 4 fatalities. A bike shop on 80 Madison Street that had been violated since 2021 was the source of an explosive fire that killed 4 residents who lived above the shop. A violation that had been issued in August of 2022 was scheduled for re inspection-but that had not taken place. The pace of E Bike battery fires is similar to that of 2022 when 220 fires occurred. Six fatalities reported. This year 2023 there have been 108 fires as of today-6-20-23 and 13 fatalities. It will take some time before alternative batteries-cited in article- will be available. Regulation and enforcement are imperative. Unfortunately since the first Bloomberg administration effective enforcement of any aspect of Vision Zero has been essentially avoided. Transportation zealots twisted political arms by suggesting that the more bikes on the streets-the safer the streets. The way to increase ridership was to eliminate enforcement. The results were obvious. Lawless street culture. Danger for all. As many have responded "that's crazy!" Certainly NOT RATIONAL. New York City has the worst congestion in the nation. How's that for going green? Billions in lost business. Dining sheds-a Transportation Alternatives delicacy-pushing to be made permanent-reduce emergency response times. Hinder sanitation. Breed rats. Increase chaos on sidewalks. The private use of public space. Just another day in paradise. https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/20/us/nyc-ebike-store-fire-lithium-ion-batteries/index.html

Slate: Paris is ahead of New York in the transportation(bike) zealotry

and then compare the same shit, just a little later, going on in NYC and other places. It’s a long article and the part presenting the drawbacks and opposition is further down the page in the article. But it’s powerful, but ignored by the writer of the article. The alarm bells should be going off in the writer’s head about the business losses and the sale of a MAJOR department store in Paris that I’ve been to many times. And that’s the affordable one. Notice also the support for the “15 minute cities” from the Mayor of Paris. We’ve already go them, and they’re called neighborhoods, but the difference in the new Urbanists/Socialists desires is that those 15 minute cities are essentially gated and closed. We can leave our neighborhoods anytime and anyway we want. That will be taken away with the 15 minute cities. Read it for the comparative nature of what’s going on. And then realize that the crap we’re fighting is all over. And coordinated. https://slate.com/business/2023/03/paris-car-ban-bikes-cycling-history-france.html

Reminder to Sen. Liz Krueger June 15,2023

Sen. Krueger sent an email offering to assist hearing and visually disabled people with technology to improve their quality of life. The following is a reminder from Coalition Against Rogue Riding Spokesman Jack Brown-that she had an opportunity to address the lack of a responsible bike culture back in 2010. When New York Magazine misquoted Mr. Brown who called the pervasive unpredictablility and danger on the streets and sidewalks " a kind of terrorism"-the writer quoted him as saying it was "terrorism". Krueger abandoned the project to bring about a safer saner environment. Quality of life. *************************************************************************************** Sen. Krueger-Your office had the opportunity to accomplish much on behalf of the disabled more than ten years ago. As the Spokesman for The Coalition Against Rogue Riding I spent nearly a year interacting with your transportation aide to address the lack of a responsible bike culture. New York Magazine did an article. The piece was so one sided the editor required the writer to present a modicum of a critical point of view of what became known as Vision Zero. He contacted me. I said the lack of a responsible bike culture created an environment that was akin to "a kind of terrorism." He quoted me as saying it was "terrorism". Now 13 years after the fact we have experienced years of needless hazard. Endured the daily danger caused by the neglect of responsible enforcement so ordered by the administrations since Bloomberg. Now Senator Krueger do you experience a twinge of remorse for summarily bolting from the process that might have brought about reasonable public safety? Do you regret abandoning your constituent's better interests? Their physical and mental health? I recognize that Transportation Alternatives and their minions can be obnoxious. I recognize that as a vote counting politician you calculated that their money and organization would translate into possible defeat. As a career politician that would derail your plans. But consider that the 2-3% of cyclists does not figure to be more valuable than the balance of voters- including "responsible" cyclists. The damage that has been done to the city's quality of life including needless deaths. injuries and numberless close calls is incalculable. The elite white men that have funded and pursued their zealous "vision" are steeped in hubris and arrogance. The loss of business due to the bike lanes is in the billions. The loss of revenue due to missing parking space is considerable. The dining sheds that also remove parking are rat motels and hinder sanitation, emergency response times and are visually repellent. New York has the worst congestion in the nation. How's that for going green? You want open space? Enhance parks. Don't shut down viable streets. Next time a visionary needs an ambulance send a pedicab. There is no gentle way to put it Sen. Krueger. You blew it. You succumbed to a rhetoric and bluster similar to the sociopathic BS of Queens product Donald Trump. Transportation Alternatives prevailed on Mayor Bloomberg to withhold enforcement by the NYPD. Enforcement is the backbone of a responsible bike culture. There was never an environment impact study. Congestion pricing is a product of the congestion caused in large measure by the bike infrastructure. Senator Krueger New York has been taken on an irrational ride. With egos that aspire to rival that of Robert Moses. Consider what might have been done for the ear and eye disabled. Some of whom are currently sueing the Open Streets projects. Consider what might have been avoided had we continued with our efforts. Consider what might have been accomplished in the name of public safety and mental health. Think about that the next time you return from Albany and set foot on the city sidewalks and city streets. You don't know where the danger is coming from but you know it's coming. Tell me Sen. Krueger isn't that "a kind of terrorism?" Jack Brown Coalition Against Rogue Riding

CM Eric Bottcher: Resolution to require SCHOOLS to provide Cycling Education to Students

CM Bottcher makes much of a resolution to require schools to provide classes on proper cycling conduct. At best this is a sad recognition that the behavior of cyclists is out of control. First and foremost enforcement by the NYPD has been restrained by the city since Mayor Bloomberg. Enforcement is the backbone of a responsible bike culture. This was not only not authentically attempted it was opposed by cycling advocates. The result is that the lawless conditions on the streets and sidewalks has only grown more dangerous. Further even if children are given instruction in school-until and unless the behavior of older cyclists is lawabiding the young cyclists are likely to adapt their behavior according to the examples they see exhibited by adults. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/FMfcgzGsmWxxMqdxkQzWjLmsRgBWkqCM

Culver City California ** decides to rip up bike lanes

Culver City California has opted to allow traffic to move more freely and cylcing to assume a less conspicuous lane. Here in New York the severe congestion is in large measure due to the bike infrastructure. Lanes to give a disproportionate share of the road to cycling and the bike racks and quiet zones to reduce parking. There might be no need for congestion pricing if there were less bike amenities. Electric vehicles will address pollution concerns. If there had been an environmental impact study there should have been a more rational approach to accomodating bicycles-scooters-E-bikes etc. More law abiding. In just two years, the number of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries commonly found in e-bikes has more than quadrupled, according to the FDNY.

The fires have left behind so much hazardous, still-flammable material that the Sanitation Department ran out of storage — and used an emergency contract to hire a company to cart it away.

Lithium-ion batteries removed from fires filled 159 containers — in sizes from 5 to 85 gallons — at a DSNY storage facility in Gravesend, Brooklyn last year. Then the city hired a company called Action Trucking to remove them in the fall.

JUDGES DE Ride Courthouse Disrupting Bike Lane

JUDGES DE Ride Courthouse Disrupting Bike Lane    *** Gothamist

Article too long to post naked.

Employing judicial restraint and reason the judges cite another act of supreme hubris

in the service of zealotry. Not only do the advocate/visionaries undermine the NYPD but they

are endeavoring to disrobe the judges by establishing a bike lane. What is more important

the law or another bike lane?
