New York Daily News Vision Zero run down

Apparently 8 preceincts had better results in terms of cyclist safety. However it was the second deadliest year with 29 deaths. Further the article neglects to say how the results were obtained. Is it possible the NYPD undertook enforcement which promoted a safer cycling micro transport environment? There is NO SAFETY WITHOUT A RESPONSIBLE CYCLING CULTURE. And since Transportation Alternatives still calls for NO ENFORCEMENT this seems to be a NO WIN situation.**********https://www.yahoo.com/news/vision-zero-means-says-8-235900839.html

AM Metro NY Mayor proposes new Dept of Sustainable Delivery

Mayor Adams has tentatively taken action to "regain control of the streets" by proposing a new or sub department to handle various aspects of the chaos caused by the burgeoning use of micro transport vehicles. It remains to be seen how the administration intends to get a responsible micro transport culture established. The reason for the current crisis is the fact that Transportation Alternatives successfully opposed enforcement 24 years ago. In fact TA still clamors that enforcement is not an option" *****Oh you silly things!!***** https://www.amny.com/politics/state-of-the-city-adams-admin-seeks-to-launch-department-of-sustainable-delivery-to-regulate-micro-mobility/

Gothamist* Queens Blvd replaced by Atlantic Ave as Blvd of DEATH.

Vision Zero is now ten years old. Without an environmental impact study and having neglected to establish a responsible cycling micro transport culture the results of the zealotry are predictably erratic. Rep. Dan Goldman's position on "cycling" and how to manage.

***We see that the Congressman has transitioned from an aggressive attorney to a politician.*** Thank you for contacting my office and sharing your thoughts on electric and non-electric bikes. I appreciate you taking the time to reach out and value your opinion. New York City urgently needs to see a rapid transition to more sustainable and convenient transportation options. At the same time, we must make sure that these emerging options are properly regulated and ensure that cyclists and pedestrians have access to both affordable bikes and safe roads. As your representative in Congress, I am proud to have cosponsored, the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act, which creates a tax rebate for 30 percent of the cost of a new electric bicycle, up to a $1,500 credit, for people purchasing e-bikes. I am also a cosponsor of the Safe Charging Electrical Bicycles and Scooters Act, which creates a grant program operated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for local governments to construct safe charging stations for e-bikes and scooters in public spaces. While we work to increase the number of affordable, clean, transit options for New Yorkers, it’s also important that we mandate minimum safety standards for these vehicles. Unfortunately, lithium-ion battery fires, often caused by the batteries in electric bikes and scooters, have become a grave concern in New York City. While in 2020 there were only 44 fires caused by poorly made lithium-ion batteries, there were 220 fires in 2022. To combat these safety concerns, I led seven members of the New York City delegation in requesting the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) update their plans to hold battery manufacturers accountable if their products do not meet minimum battery safety standards. Additionally, I have cosponsored the Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act, which requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission to establish a final safety standard for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in personal mobility devices to protect against the risk of fires caused by such batteries. I will continue to work to ensure that New York cyclists are both protected and rewarded for their part in realizing a cleaner and safer community. I have also heard from many constituents, especially from seniors, the need for safe measures to prevent reckless driving from cyclists; particularly those with electric bikes on sidewalks and in parks. I work closely with our local police precincts to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and drivers are all following city regulations and are working together to foster safe streets in our neighborhoods. I encourage all constituents to visit their local police precinct’s community council meetings to highlight dangerous intersections. To make sure you stay up to date on my work to serve you and our community here in Congress, please sign up for my newsletter and follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Village Sun-Another e bike hit and run. Jan 1 24

Artist Fly Orr suffered a broken wrist when she was struck by a rogue e bike rider who fled the scene. She observes that some riders seem to be both smoking marijuana and absorbed in using a device while riding. A cause for distraction and accidents. Another blemish on the city's lamentable record of responsible enforcement of the laws. https://thevillagesun.com/not-right-hit-by-e-bike-artist-must-now-draw-left-handed
