Dear
Correspondence Unit: I would further strongly recommend that an
Independent Study be conducted. Possibly through the Charter Commission
to analyze objectively what the authentic needs of the cycling community
are. Versus what has been done and at what cost. This should be
fundamental to any further exacerbation of the public safety/congestion
crisis. In 2017 the loss in business to the city due to congestion is
figured at nearly 35 billion dollars. The number of cyclists who commute
said to be about 85,000-weather permitting. The number of commuters by
public trans well in excess of 3 million. Not only have considerable
resources been expended on the bike build out but this has caused a
choking of vehicular flow, longer response time for EMS,and with the
ride share resulted in world class congestion. Finally a congestion tax
on the public for what is essentially 85,000 young and healthy cyclists.
Elitist-to say the least est. Tail wagging the dog anyone? It is time
to restore reason and balance to the public safety menace. Under the
guise of going green-being environmentally friendly a collossal hit to
the NYC quality of life has been perpetrated.Bike zealots would claim
that the quality of the air has improved.I checked with the EPA-the
quality of the gasoline would have made a difference. However the
congestion obviates that. The time for a reality check has come. Too
many deaths. Too many injuries.Far too many harrowing close calls for
pedestrians-and fellow cyclists-by rogue bike riders.Time to reckon with
the lobbyists, the serial sophists and vote seeking contribution
soliciting pols.Time to stop conflating going green with lawlessness.
Time to do right by the people.
Sincerely-
Jack Brown
